Thank you to Block Island Organics for sponsoring the product in this post, Tips for Kayaking for Beginners.

Tips for Kayaking

My husband and I love doing this together outdoors. We are no experts, BUT we are great beginners that have several outings under our belt.  It’s best to start in still waters like a lake or bay. I thought I’d share some Tips for Kayaking for Beginners.

Here we decided to rent a tandem kayak, but we have both done single riding too. I like the tandem because I let him do all the work. Just kidding!

Great Tips for Kayaking

Tip #1: Dress appropriately. Go online and check the temperature of the water in the area you are kayaking. Checking the weather is great, but check the water temp in case you fall in or tip over!

Tip #2: Wear a good sunscreen. My husband and I wore Block Island Organics. These sunscreens are non-toxic mineral based (zinc and titanium), as opposed to chemical based, and include a Baby SPF 30 (this product is zinc only), an SPF 15, SPF 30 and SPF 40 product.  It is non-comedogenic, vegan formulated, paraben free, phthalate free, nano particle free, artificial fragrance free, non-eye irritating, not tested on animals, made in the USA and highly rated by the Environmental Working Group. We like to put it on before we leave the house so that we know we are protected.

Tip #3: Pay attention. I know it is exciting going out on your first kayaking adventure but be sure to pay attention to the instructor and listen to all the safety tips they provide. When you are new, the instructor will help you choose the right kayak and paddle size.

Tip #4: Lean back and relax. This will help keep the kayak balanced and stable.

Tip #5: While rowing with the paddle, allow the blade to submerge entirely into the water.

I hope you liked my Tips for Kayaking for Beginners. I also want to thank Block Island Organics for supply the sun screen for our mini adventure. It provided us great protection and it wasn’t too greasey. Be sure to visit them on Facebook and Twitter!
